P2B Troubleshooting
Typical P2B Opening Challenges
PeerGuardian 2 is Not Installed
When you double-click your P2B file, you may see a dialog box from your operating system stating that it "Cannot Open This File Type". If this is the case, it's usually due to the fact that you do not have PeerGuardian 2 for %%os%% installed on your computer. Your operating system cannot associate your P2B with PeerGuardian 2, so double-clicking the file won't work.
Tip: Another P2B-related program can be selected to open the file by clicking "Show Apps" and finding the application.
Incorrect PeerGuardian 2 Version
In some cases, you might have a newer (or older) version of a PeerGuardian 2 IP Blocking List file that is unsupported by your installed application version. If you do not have the proper version PeerGuardian 2 (or any of the other programs listed above), you may need to try downloading a different version of it, or one of the other software applications listed above. This problem is predominately due to having a PeerGuardian 2 IP Blocking List file version that was created by a newer version of PeerGuardian 2 than what you have installed on your PC.
Tip: Right-clicking on your P2B, then clicking "Properties" (Windows) or "Get Info" (Mac), can provide clues about your file version.
Ultimately, most of the difficulties opening P2B files are due to having the wrong version of PeerGuardian 2 installed.
Associated Difficulties Loading P2B Files
Even with the correct version of PeerGuardian 2 installed, you can still experience difficulties opening P2Bs. If you're still experiencing problems opening P2B files, there could be other computer problems. Problems unrelated to software:
- Invalid P2B file references in the Windows Registry (the "phonebook" of the Windows Operating System)
- Accidental deletion of the description of the P2B file in the Windows registry
- Corrupt install of PeerGuardian 2 or other P2B-related program
- Something has caused file corruption of your P2B
- Malware-tainted P2B file can't be opened
- Drivers associated with P2B software need to be updated
- Windows cannot load your PeerGuardian 2 IP Blocking List file due to insufficient resources (eg. RAM)
