PAJ File Complications
Common Problems Opening PAJ Files
Pajek Isn't There
Double-clicking your PAJ file prompts the message "%%os%% Can't Open PAJ File". When this happens, it is commonly due to Pajek missing in %%os%%. You won't be able to double-click to open your PAJ because your OS doesn't know what to do with it.
Tip: If you have another software that you know opens PAJ files, you can select it by hitting the "Show Apps" button.
Incorrect Pajek Version
In some cases, you might have a newer (or older) version of a Pajek Project File file that is unsupported by your installed application version. If you've got the wrong version of Pajek installed, you'll need to install the correct version. Your Pajek Project File file was probably created by a newer release of Pajek than what's currently installed your computer.
Tip: Investigate your PAJ file by right-clicking and selecting "Properties" to find clues on what version you need.
Regardless, most of the PAJ file opening problems relate to not having the right version of Pajek installed.
Additional PAJ Opening Issues
Although you might already have Pajek or another PAJ-associated software installed on your computer, you can still encounter problems opening Pajek Project File files. There can be external issues inside of %%os%% that are causing these errors when opening PAJs. These other problems include (listed in order from most to least common):
- PAJ file type Registry entries are wrong
- Accidental deletion of the description of the PAJ file in the Windows registry
- Incomplete or bad installation of a software application associated with the PAJ format
- File corruption affecting your PAJ file
- Your PAJ has adversely impacted by malware
- Hardware related to PAJs has device driver corruption
- Insufficient system resources to successfully open Pajek Project File files
