Troubleshoot PBN Files
Typical PBN Opening Challenges
RoboBridge Not Present
If you attempt to load your PBN file, you experience a message such as "Can't Open PBN Files". Generally, this is experienced in %%os%% because RoboBridge isn't installed on your PC. You won't be able to double-click to open your PBN because your OS doesn't know what to do with it.
Tip: Another PBN-related program can be selected to open the file by clicking "Show Apps" and finding the application.
RoboBridge Requires Update
Sometimes your installed version of RoboBridge won't support your Portable Bridge Notation File file. You will need to download a newer version of RoboBridge if you don't have the right version. Your Portable Bridge Notation File file was probably created by a newer release of RoboBridge than what's currently installed your computer.
Tip: Investigate your PBN file by right-clicking and selecting "Properties" to find clues on what version you need.
Primarily, problems experienced when opening PBN files are due to having the incorrect version of RoboBridge installed on your computer.
Associated Difficulties Loading PBN Files
Assuming you have the right RoboBridge version installed, other problems can prevent you from opening PBN files. Other PBN opening errors can be created by other system problems inside of %%os%%. Other contributing causes:
- Corrupt Windows Registry file path references for PBN
- Accidental deletion of the description of the PBN file in the Windows registry
- Invalid installation of a PBN-associated program (eg. RoboBridge)
- Your PBN file is corrupted (issues with your Portable Bridge Notation File file itself)
- The PBN is infected with a virus
- Device drivers of the hardware associated with your PBN file are corrupt or out-of-date
- Insufficient system resources to successfully open Portable Bridge Notation File files
