Understanding PLOT Issues

Common PLOT Opening Problems

Unix Not Present

Double-clicking your PLOT file prompts the message "%%os%% Can't Open PLOT File". If so, it typically means that you don't have Unix installed for %%os%%. Your operating system cannot associate your PLOT with Unix, so double-clicking the file won't work.

Tip: If you have another software that you know opens PLOT files, you can select it by hitting the "Show Apps" button.

Outdated Unix

Sometimes your installed version of Unix won't support your Vector Graphics file. Visit the AT&T Labs website to download (or purchase) the latest version of Unix. This problem is most common when you have an older version of the software application, and your file was created by a newer version that it cannot recognize.

Tip: Sometimes you can get a clue about the version of PLOT file you have by right clicking on the file, then clicking on "Properties" (Windows) or "Get Info" (Mac OSX).

Ultimately, most of the difficulties opening PLOT files are due to having the wrong version of Unix installed.

Other PLOT File Opening Causes

In the majority of cases, installing the right version of Unix will resolve your issue. There can be external issues inside of %%os%% that are causing these errors when opening PLOTs. These issues include:

  • Corrupt Windows Registry file path references for PLOT
  • Accidental deletion of the description of the PLOT file in the Windows registry
  • Invalid installation of a PLOT-associated program (eg. Unix)
  • The PLOT itself is corrupted
  • Your PLOT has adversely impacted by malware
  • Drivers associated with PLOT software need to be updated
  • Too many applications are open on your PC to load your Vector Graphics file successfully
