Troubleshooting Problems Opening PLUGIN Files
Frequent PLUGIN Opening Issues
Adobe Photoshop is Not Installed
You encounter an error message such as "%%os%% Can't Open PLUGIN Files" when trying to open your PLUGIN. Generally, this is experienced in %%os%% because Adobe Photoshop isn't installed on your PC. The OS won't know what to do with your PLUGIN file, so double-clicking to load the file doesn't work.
Tip: When you have another program installed that you know will open your PLUGIN, you can select it from the other programs listed (see "Show Apps").
Adobe Photoshop Requires Update
In some cases, you might have a newer (or older) version of a Adobe Photoshop Plugin file that is unsupported by your installed application version. If you do not have the proper version Adobe Photoshop (or any of the other programs listed above), you may need to try downloading a different version of it, or one of the other software applications listed above. This problem is predominately due to having a Adobe Photoshop Plugin file version that was created by a newer version of Adobe Photoshop than what you have installed on your PC.
Tip: If you right-click on your PLUGIN file, then select "Properties" (Windows) or "Get Info" (Mac), you can obtain hints about what version you need.
Summary: Not having the right Adobe Photoshop version on your computer can cause problems opening PLUGIN files.
Other PLUGIN File Opening Causes
Although you might already have Adobe Photoshop or another PLUGIN-associated software installed on your computer, you can still encounter problems opening Adobe Photoshop Plugin files. If you're still experiencing problems opening PLUGIN files, there could be other computer problems. Other contributing causes:
- Invalid PLUGIN file references in the Windows Registry (the "phonebook" of the Windows Operating System)
- Accidental deletion of the description of the PLUGIN file in the Windows registry
- Incomplete or bad installation of a software application associated with the PLUGIN format
- Your PLUGIN can't be loaded properly (file corruption)
- Past or present virus infection has affected your PLUGIN
- Hardware associated with PLUGIN has outdated drivers
- Your PC doesn’t have enough available resources to open the Adobe Photoshop Plugin file
