Troubleshoot PNT Files
Common PNT Opening Problems
MacPaint Removed
Double-clicking your PNT file prompts the message "%%os%% Can't Open PNT File". When this happens, it is commonly due to MacPaint missing in %%os%%. The typical path of opening your PNT with a double-click won't work because %%os%% cannot make the program connection.
Tip: When you have another program installed that you know will open your PNT, you can select it from the other programs listed (see "Show Apps").
MacPaint is Out-of-Date
Your MacPaint File file is incompatible with MacPaint because you might have the wrong version installed. Installing the latest version of MacPaint from Apple is recommended. The primary cause of this problem is that your MacPaint File file was created by a different (newer) version of MacPaint than what's installed.
Tip: Sometimes you can get a clue about the version of PNT file you have by right clicking on the file, then clicking on "Properties" (Windows) or "Get Info" (Mac OSX).
Summary: Not having the right MacPaint version on your computer can cause problems opening PNT files.
Additional PNT Opening Issues
In the majority of cases, installing the right version of MacPaint will resolve your issue. Other PNT opening errors can be created by other system problems inside of %%os%%. Other contributing causes:
- PNT file type Registry entries are wrong
- Deletion of the PNT file description from the Registry by mistake
- Incomplete or bad installation of a software application associated with the PNT format
- Your PNT can't be loaded properly (file corruption)
- Your PNT has adversely impacted by malware
- Hardware associated with PNT has outdated drivers
- Too many applications are open on your PC to load your MacPaint File file successfully
