POO Troubleshooting

Troubles Opening POO Files

CCS64 Isn't There

When you double-click your POO file, you may see a dialog box from your operating system stating that it "Cannot Open This File Type". If this is the case, it's usually due to the fact that you do not have CCS64 for %%os%% installed on your computer. The typical path of opening your POO with a double-click won't work because %%os%% cannot make the program connection.

Tip: If you don't have CCS64 installed, and you know of another program to open your POO file, you can try opening it by selecting from the programs listed under "Show Apps".

Outdated CCS64

It is possible that your version of CCS64 isn't able to open your Commodore C64 Machine Code file due to incompatibility. You will need to download a newer version of CCS64 if you don't have the right version. Your Commodore C64 Machine Code file was probably created by a newer release of CCS64 than what's currently installed your computer.

Tip: Find clues on the correct software version by right-clicking your POO file and clicking "Properties".

Conclusion: The majority of POO file opening issues are due to not having the correct CCS64 version installed.

Other POO File Issues

Even with the correct version of CCS64 installed, you can still experience difficulties opening POOs. There can be other issues - unrelated to software - preventing you from opening POO files. Issues that aren't software-related:

  • Windows Registry POO file paths that are incorrect
  • The POO file description within the Windows Registry was removed
  • CCS64 or another POO application experienced a flawed installation
  • POO file corruption
  • Your POO has adversely impacted by malware
  • Hardware related to POOs has device driver corruption
  • Windows has inadequate resources to open your Commodore C64 Machine Code file
