Understanding PPU Issues

Issues Opening PPU Files

Free Pascal Not Present

You attempt to load your PPU file and get an error such as "%%os%% Can't Open The PPU File Extension". Generally, this is experienced in %%os%% because Free Pascal isn't installed on your PC. You won't be able to double-click to open your PPU because your OS doesn't know what to do with it.

Tip: When you have another program installed that you know will open your PPU, you can select it from the other programs listed (see "Show Apps").

Wrong Version of Free Pascal is Installed

Sometimes your installed version of Free Pascal won't support your Free Pascal Unit File file. Download the latest Free Pascal version from the Open Source website to ensure you have the correct one installed. This problem is predominately due to having a Free Pascal Unit File file version that was created by a newer version of Free Pascal than what you have installed on your PC.

Tip: If you right-click on your PPU file, then select "Properties" (Windows) or "Get Info" (Mac), you can obtain hints about what version you need.

Regardless, most of the PPU file opening problems relate to not having the right version of Free Pascal installed.

Associated Difficulties Loading PPU Files

You can still experience errors opening PPU files even with the latest version of Free Pascal installed on your PC. Other PPU opening errors can be created by other system problems inside of %%os%%. These other problems include (listed in order from most to least common):

• PPU file references in the Windows Registry are broken
• The PPU file description within the Windows Registry was removed
• Corrupt install of Free Pascal or other PPU-related program
• File corruption affecting your PPU file
• PPU file integrity has been compromised by malware
• Hardware associated with PPU has outdated drivers
• Windows cannot load your Free Pascal Unit File file due to insufficient resources (eg. RAM)
