Sources of PT Problems
Typical PT Opening Challenges
Zope Isn't There
If you attempt to load your PT file, you experience a message such as "Can't Open PT Files". Generally, this is experienced in %%os%% because Zope isn't installed on your PC. Your operating system cannot associate your PT with Zope, so double-clicking the file won't work.
Tip: If you don't have Zope installed, and you know of another program to open your PT file, you can try opening it by selecting from the programs listed under "Show Apps".
Obsolete Version of Zope
It is possible that your version of Zope isn't able to open your Zope Page Template file due to incompatibility. Download the latest Zope version from the Open Source website to ensure you have the correct one installed. Your Zope Page Template file was probably created by a newer release of Zope than what's currently installed your computer.
Tip: Sometimes you can get a clue about the version of PT file you have by right clicking on the file, then clicking on "Properties" (Windows) or "Get Info" (Mac OSX).
Conclusion: The majority of PT file opening issues are due to not having the correct Zope version installed.
More Causes of Problems Opening PTs
Assuming you have the right Zope version installed, other problems can prevent you from opening PT files. Other PT opening errors can be created by other system problems inside of %%os%%. Issues that aren't software-related:
- PT file type Registry entries are wrong
- Deletion of the PT file description from the Registry by mistake
- Zope or another PT application experienced a flawed installation
- File corruption affecting your PT file
- Your PT is infected with malware
- PT-related hardware has device drivers that obsolete
- Too many applications are open on your PC to load your Zope Page Template file successfully
