Understanding PVD Issues

Typical PVD Opening Challenges

Missing Polygen3D

You attempt to load your PVD file and get an error such as "%%os%% Can't Open The PVD File Extension". Customarily, this means that Polygen3D is not installed on %%os%%. Your operating system cannot associate your PVD with Polygen3D, so double-clicking the file won't work.

Tip: If you know of another program that can open your PVD file, you can try opening it by selecting the application from the programs listed.

Wrong Version of Polygen3D is Installed

Sometimes your installed version of Polygen3D won't support your Polygen3D Vector Descriptor file. Visit the Varden Development website to download (or purchase) the latest version of Polygen3D. The primary cause of this problem is that your Polygen3D Vector Descriptor file was created by a different (newer) version of Polygen3D than what's installed.

Tip: Find clues on the correct software version by right-clicking your PVD file and clicking "Properties".

Primarily, problems experienced when opening PVD files are due to having the incorrect version of Polygen3D installed on your computer.

Additional PVD Opening Issues

In the majority of cases, installing the right version of Polygen3D will resolve your issue. If you are continuing to have errors with loading PVD files, other external issues might be to blame. These issues include:

  • PVD file type Registry entries are wrong
  • Mistaken removal of the Windows registry PVD description
  • Partial installation of Polygen3D that did not fully complete
  • PVD file corruption
  • Your PVD is infected with malware
  • PVD-related hardware has device drivers that obsolete
  • Too many applications are open on your PC to load your Polygen3D Vector Descriptor file successfully

Poll: How many different computer files (eg. documents, videos, audio) do you typically view or edit on a daily basis?
