PXO Troubleshooting

Troubles Opening PXO Files

PicoBackup Not Present

You attempt to load your PXO file and get an error such as "%%os%% Can't Open The PXO File Extension". When this happens, it is commonly due to PicoBackup missing in %%os%%. This will prevent you from double-clicking to open the PXO file because the OS doesn’t know how to handle it.

Tip: When another PXO application is installed, you can choose to open it by selecting "Show Apps" and using that program.

Wrong Version of PicoBackup is Installed

In some cases, you might have a newer (or older) version of a PicoBackup Backup Script file that is unsupported by your installed application version. Installing the latest version of PicoBackup from Open Source is recommended. This problem is predominately due to having a PicoBackup Backup Script file version that was created by a newer version of PicoBackup than what you have installed on your PC.

Tip: Find clues on the correct software version by right-clicking your PXO file and clicking "Properties".

Regardless, most of the PXO file opening problems relate to not having the right version of PicoBackup installed.

Associated Difficulties Loading PXO Files

Errors opening PicoBackup Backup Script files can still occur even with the latest PicoBackup software installed on your computer. If you're still experiencing problems opening PXO files, there could be other computer problems. Problems unrelated to software:

  • Corrupt Windows Registry file path references for PXO
  • The PXO file description within the Windows Registry was removed
  • Incomplete or bad installation of a software application associated with the PXO format
  • File corruption affecting your PXO file
  • PXO file integrity has been compromised by malware
  • Device drivers for PXO-related hardware are out-of-date
  • Your computer does not have the adequate system resources to open the PicoBackup Backup Script format
