Troubleshooting Problems Opening RAP Files
Frequent RAP Opening Issues
RAPTOR Removed
You attempt to load your RAP file and get an error such as "%%os%% Can't Open The RAP File Extension". If this is the case, it's usually due to the fact that you do not have RAPTOR for %%os%% installed on your computer. Because your operating system doesn't know what to do with this file, you won't be able to open it by double-clicking.
Tip: When another RAP application is installed, you can choose to open it by selecting "Show Apps" and using that program.
Obsolete Version of RAPTOR
In some cases, you might have a newer (or older) version of a Raptor Flowchart File file that is unsupported by your installed application version. Visit the Open Source website to download (or purchase) the latest version of RAPTOR. Most of the time your Raptor Flowchart File file was created by a newer RAPTOR than what you have installed.
Tip: Right-clicking on your RAP, then clicking "Properties" (Windows) or "Get Info" (Mac), can provide clues about your file version.
Regardless, most of the RAP file opening problems relate to not having the right version of RAPTOR installed.
Other RAP File Issues
Assuming you have the right RAPTOR version installed, other problems can prevent you from opening RAP files. If you are continuing to have errors with loading RAP files, other external issues might be to blame. These other problems include (listed in order from most to least common):
- Windows Registry RAP file paths that are incorrect
- Mistaken removal of the Windows registry RAP description
- Incomplete or bad installation of a software application associated with the RAP format
- Something has caused file corruption of your RAP
- Your RAP has adversely impacted by malware
- Device drivers of the hardware associated with your RAP file are corrupt or out-of-date
- Too many applications are open on your PC to load your Raptor Flowchart File file successfully
