Understanding RIV Issues
Common Problems Opening RIV Files
CRiSP Harvest Removed
When trying to open your RIV file, you get the error "Can't Open RIV File Type". If so, it typically means that you don't have CRiSP Harvest installed for %%os%%. Because your operating system doesn't know what to do with this file, you won't be able to open it by double-clicking.
Tip: If you don't have CRiSP Harvest installed, and you know of another program to open your RIV file, you can try opening it by selecting from the programs listed under "Show Apps".
CRiSP Harvest Requires Update
It is possible that your version of CRiSP Harvest isn't able to open your CRiSP Harvest File file due to incompatibility. Visit the Open Source website to download (or purchase) the latest version of CRiSP Harvest. The primary cause of this problem is that your CRiSP Harvest File file was created by a different (newer) version of CRiSP Harvest than what's installed.
Tip: Investigate your RIV file by right-clicking and selecting "Properties" to find clues on what version you need.
Regardless, most of the RIV file opening problems relate to not having the right version of CRiSP Harvest installed.
Associated Difficulties Loading RIV Files
Errors opening CRiSP Harvest File files can still occur even with the latest CRiSP Harvest software installed on your computer. If you are still having problems opening RIV files, there may be other issues that are preventing you from opening these files. Issues that aren't software-related:
- RIV file references in the Windows Registry are broken
- The RIV file description within the Windows Registry was removed
- Partial installation of CRiSP Harvest that did not fully complete
- Something has caused file corruption of your RIV
- Past or present virus infection has affected your RIV
- Device drivers for RIV-related hardware are out-of-date
- Insufficient system resources to successfully open CRiSP Harvest File files
