SDK File Complications
Typical SDK Opening Challenges
AutoSketch Disappeared
If you attempt to load your SDK file, you experience a message such as "Can't Open SDK Files". Usually, this is because you do not have AutoSketch for %%os%% installed. You won't be able to double-click to open your SDK because your OS doesn't know what to do with it.
Tip: If you don't have AutoSketch installed, and you know of another program to open your SDK file, you can try opening it by selecting from the programs listed under "Show Apps".
Wrong Version of AutoSketch is Installed
Your AutoSketch Drawing file is incompatible with AutoSketch because you might have the wrong version installed. Visit the Autodesk, Inc. website to download (or purchase) the latest version of AutoSketch. Most of the time your AutoSketch Drawing file was created by a newer AutoSketch than what you have installed.
Tip: Right-clicking on your SDK, then clicking "Properties" (Windows) or "Get Info" (Mac), can provide clues about your file version.
Summary: In either case, the majority of problems opening SDK files are related to not having the correct software application installed on your computer.
Other SDK File Issues
Errors opening AutoSketch Drawing files can still occur even with the latest AutoSketch software installed on your computer. There can be external issues inside of %%os%% that are causing these errors when opening SDKs. These issues include:
- Invalid SDK file references in the Windows Registry (the "phonebook" of the Windows Operating System)
- Corruption of the SDK file description inside the Registry
- Invalid installation of a SDK-associated program (eg. AutoSketch)
- SDK file corruption
- Past or present virus infection has affected your SDK
- SDK-related hardware has device drivers that obsolete
- Windows cannot load your AutoSketch Drawing file due to insufficient resources (eg. RAM)
