Understanding SF Issues
Troubles Opening SF Files
Awave Studio Removed
You attempt to load your SF file and get an error such as "%%os%% Can't Open The SF File Extension". Usually, this is because you do not have Awave Studio for %%os%% installed. The typical path of opening your SF with a double-click won't work because %%os%% cannot make the program connection.
Tip: If you don't have Awave Studio installed, and you know of another program to open your SF file, you can try opening it by selecting from the programs listed under "Show Apps".
Incorrect Awave Studio Version
Sometimes your installed version of Awave Studio won't support your IRCAM Sound File file. Download the latest Awave Studio version from the FMJ-Software website to ensure you have the correct one installed. This issue mainly occurs when your IRCAM Sound File file was created by a newer version of Awave Studio than you have on your PC.
Tip: Sometimes you can get a clue about the version of SF file you have by right clicking on the file, then clicking on "Properties" (Windows) or "Get Info" (Mac OSX).
Summary: In either case, the majority of problems opening SF files are related to not having the correct software application installed on your computer.
More Causes of Problems Opening SFs
Assuming you have the right Awave Studio version installed, other problems can prevent you from opening SF files. If you're still experiencing problems opening SF files, there could be other computer problems. These issues include:
- SF file references in the Windows Registry are broken
- The SF file description within the Windows Registry was removed
- Partial installation of Awave Studio that did not fully complete
- File corruption affecting your SF file
- The SF is infected with a virus
- SF-related hardware has device drivers that obsolete
- Windows cannot load your IRCAM Sound File file due to insufficient resources (eg. RAM)
