SFD Troubleshooting
Common SFD Opening Problems
Media Player Classic Disappeared
When you double-click your SFD file, you may see a dialog box from your operating system stating that it "Cannot Open This File Type". If this is the case, it's usually due to the fact that you do not have Media Player Classic for %%os%% installed on your computer. The OS won't know what to do with your SFD file, so double-clicking to load the file doesn't work.
Tip: When you have another program installed that you know will open your SFD, you can select it from the other programs listed (see "Show Apps").
Wrong Version of Media Player Classic is Installed
Your Sofdec Dreamcast Movie file is incompatible with Media Player Classic because you might have the wrong version installed. Installing the latest version of Media Player Classic from Open Source is recommended. This problem is predominately due to having a Sofdec Dreamcast Movie file version that was created by a newer version of Media Player Classic than what you have installed on your PC.
Tip: Sometimes you can get a clue about the version of SFD file you have by right clicking on the file, then clicking on "Properties" (Windows) or "Get Info" (Mac OSX).
Summary: In either case, the majority of problems opening SFD files are related to not having the correct software application installed on your computer.
Other Causes of SFD File Opening Problems
Although you might already have Media Player Classic or another SFD-associated software installed on your computer, you can still encounter problems opening Sofdec Dreamcast Movie files. If you're still experiencing problems opening SFD files, there could be other computer problems. Additional factors include:
- SFD file type Registry entries are wrong
- Corruption of the SFD file description inside the Registry
- Invalid installation of a SFD-associated program (eg. Media Player Classic)
- Your SFD file is corrupted (issues with your Sofdec Dreamcast Movie file itself)
- Malware-tainted SFD file can't be opened
- SFD-related hardware has device drivers that obsolete
- Your PC doesn’t have enough available resources to open the Sofdec Dreamcast Movie file
