Troubleshoot SKCHR Files
Issues Opening SKCHR Files
SketchChair Not Present
When you double-click your SKCHR file, you may see a dialog box from your operating system stating that it "Cannot Open This File Type". When this happens, it is commonly due to SketchChair missing in %%os%%. The OS won't know what to do with your SKCHR file, so double-clicking to load the file doesn't work.
Tip: When you have another program installed that you know will open your SKCHR, you can select it from the other programs listed (see "Show Apps").
Incorrect SketchChair Version
In other instances, your SketchChair Design file version may not be supported by your version of SketchChair. You will need to download a newer version of SketchChair if you don't have the right version. The primary cause of this problem is that your SketchChair Design file was created by a different (newer) version of SketchChair than what's installed.
Tip: If you right-click on your SKCHR file, then select "Properties" (Windows) or "Get Info" (Mac), you can obtain hints about what version you need.
Summary: Not having the right SketchChair version on your computer can cause problems opening SKCHR files.
Other SKCHR File Issues
Although you might already have SketchChair or another SKCHR-associated software installed on your computer, you can still encounter problems opening SketchChair Design files. If you're still experiencing problems opening SKCHR files, there could be other computer problems. These other problems include (listed in order from most to least common):
- Corrupt Windows Registry file path references for SKCHR
- Unintentional removal of the description of the SKCHR file inside the Windows Registry
- Partial installation of SketchChair that did not fully complete
- Your SKCHR file is corrupted (issues with your SketchChair Design file itself)
- Past or present virus infection has affected your SKCHR
- Hardware related to SKCHRs has device driver corruption
- Your PC doesn’t have enough available resources to open the SketchChair Design file
