SON Troubleshooting

Frequent SON Opening Issues

Apple Logic Pro is Not Installed

When you double-click your SON file, you may see a dialog box from your operating system stating that it "Cannot Open This File Type". If this is the case, it's usually due to the fact that you do not have Apple Logic Pro for %%os%% installed on your computer. You won't be able to double-click to open your SON because your OS doesn't know what to do with it.

Tip: When another SON application is installed, you can choose to open it by selecting "Show Apps" and using that program.

Obsolete Version of Apple Logic Pro

It is possible that your version of Apple Logic Pro isn't able to open your Notator SL Audio File file due to incompatibility. You will need to download a newer version of Apple Logic Pro if you don't have the right version. This problem is predominately due to having a Notator SL Audio File file version that was created by a newer version of Apple Logic Pro than what you have installed on your PC.

Tip: If you right-click on your SON file, then select "Properties" (Windows) or "Get Info" (Mac), you can obtain hints about what version you need.

Summary: Not having the right Apple Logic Pro version on your computer can cause problems opening SON files.

Other Causes of SON File Opening Problems

In the majority of cases, installing the right version of Apple Logic Pro will resolve your issue. There can be external issues inside of %%os%% that are causing these errors when opening SONs. Other contributing causes:

  • File references in the Windows Registry for SON are wrong
  • Corruption of the SON file description inside the Registry
  • Incomplete or bad installation of a software application associated with the SON format
  • Something has caused file corruption of your SON
  • SON file integrity has been compromised by malware
  • Device drivers of the hardware associated with your SON file are corrupt or out-of-date
  • Windows cannot load your Notator SL Audio File file due to insufficient resources (eg. RAM)
