Sources of SPM Problems
Typical SPM Opening Challenges
Corel WordPerfect Removed
If you attempt to load your SPM file, you experience a message such as "Can't Open SPM Files". Usually, this is because you do not have Corel WordPerfect for %%os%% installed. Your operating system cannot associate your SPM with Corel WordPerfect, so double-clicking the file won't work.
Tip: When another SPM application is installed, you can choose to open it by selecting "Show Apps" and using that program.
Corel WordPerfect Requires Update
Your Corel WordPerfect Data file is incompatible with Corel WordPerfect because you might have the wrong version installed. Visit the Corel website to download (or purchase) the latest version of Corel WordPerfect. The primary cause of this problem is that your Corel WordPerfect Data file was created by a different (newer) version of Corel WordPerfect than what's installed.
Tip: Sometimes you can get a clue about the version of SPM file you have by right clicking on the file, then clicking on "Properties" (Windows) or "Get Info" (Mac OSX).
Primarily, problems experienced when opening SPM files are due to having the incorrect version of Corel WordPerfect installed on your computer.
Other Causes of SPM File Opening Problems
Errors opening Corel WordPerfect Data files can still occur even with the latest Corel WordPerfect software installed on your computer. If you are still having problems opening SPM files, there may be other issues that are preventing you from opening these files. Other contributing causes:
- Windows Registry SPM file paths that are incorrect
- The SPM file description within the Windows Registry was removed
- Defective install of a SPM program, such as Corel WordPerfect
- The SPM itself is corrupted
- Your SPM has adversely impacted by malware
- Hardware related to SPMs has device driver corruption
- Your PC doesn’t have enough available resources to open the Corel WordPerfect Data file
