Troubleshoot SRB Files
Common Problems Opening SRB Files
XWE Not Present
When you double-click your SRB file, you may see a dialog box from your operating system stating that it "Cannot Open This File Type". Usually, this is because you do not have XWE for %%os%% installed. Because your operating system doesn't know what to do with this file, you won't be able to open it by double-clicking.
Tip: If you don't have XWE installed, and you know of another program to open your SRB file, you can try opening it by selecting from the programs listed under "Show Apps".
Incorrect XWE Version
In some cases, you might have a newer (or older) version of a XWE File file that is unsupported by your installed application version. Download the latest XWE version from the Open Source website to ensure you have the correct one installed. This problem is most common when you have an older version of the software application, and your file was created by a newer version that it cannot recognize.
Tip: You can sometimes get hints about the right program version by right-clicking on the SRB file, selecting "Properties", and looking at the version information.
Ultimately, most of the difficulties opening SRB files are due to having the wrong version of XWE installed.
Other Causes of SRB File Opening Problems
Even with the correct version of XWE installed, you can still experience difficulties opening SRBs. If you're still experiencing problems opening SRB files, there could be other computer problems. Additional factors include:
- SRB file references in the Windows Registry are broken
- The SRB file description within the Windows Registry was removed
- Corrupt install of XWE or other SRB-related program
- Something has caused file corruption of your SRB
- The SRB is infected with a virus
- Hardware related to SRBs has device driver corruption
- Your computer does not have the adequate system resources to open the XWE File format
