STA File Complications

Troubles Opening STA Files

ABAQUS software suite Not Present

When trying to open your STA file, you get the error "Can't Open STA File Type". When this happens, it is commonly due to ABAQUS software suite missing in %%os%%. The typical path of opening your STA with a double-click won't work because %%os%% cannot make the program connection.

Tip: When another STA application is installed, you can choose to open it by selecting "Show Apps" and using that program.

Wrong Version of ABAQUS software suite is Installed

Occasionally, you might have an outdated version of ABAQUS software suite installed that's incompatible with your ABAQUS Status File type. Visit the Dassault Systèmes website to download (or purchase) the latest version of ABAQUS software suite. Most of the time your ABAQUS Status File file was created by a newer ABAQUS software suite than what you have installed.

Tip: If you right-click on your STA file, then select "Properties" (Windows) or "Get Info" (Mac), you can obtain hints about what version you need.

Regardless, most of the STA file opening problems relate to not having the right version of ABAQUS software suite installed.

Other STA File Opening Causes

Assuming you have the right ABAQUS software suite version installed, other problems can prevent you from opening STA files. There can be other issues - unrelated to software - preventing you from opening STA files. These other problems include (listed in order from most to least common):

  • File references in the Windows Registry for STA are wrong
  • Unintentional removal of the description of the STA file inside the Windows Registry
  • ABAQUS software suite or another STA application experienced a flawed installation
  • Something has caused file corruption of your STA
  • The STA is infected with a virus
  • Device drivers of the hardware associated with your STA file are corrupt or out-of-date
  • Windows cannot load your ABAQUS Status File file due to insufficient resources (eg. RAM)
