STATS Troubleshooting
Frequent STATS Opening Issues
FreeSurfer Removed
When you double-click your STATS file, you may see a dialog box from your operating system stating that it "Cannot Open This File Type". If so, it typically means that you don't have FreeSurfer installed for %%os%%. You won't be able to double-click to open your STATS because your OS doesn't know what to do with it.
Tip: If you know of another program that can open your STATS file, you can try opening it by selecting the application from the programs listed.
FreeSurfer is Out-of-Date
Sometimes your installed version of FreeSurfer won't support your FreeSurfer Statistics File file. Visit the Open Source website to download (or purchase) the latest version of FreeSurfer. This issue mainly occurs when your FreeSurfer Statistics File file was created by a newer version of FreeSurfer than you have on your PC.
Tip: You can sometimes get hints about the right program version by right-clicking on the STATS file, selecting "Properties", and looking at the version information.
Conclusion: The majority of STATS file opening issues are due to not having the correct FreeSurfer version installed.
