Troubleshooting Problems Opening TGD Files
Common TGD Opening Problems
Missing Planetside Software Terragen
If you attempt to load your TGD file, you experience a message such as "Can't Open TGD Files". Usually, this is because you do not have Planetside Software Terragen for %%os%% installed. You won't be able to double-click to open your TGD because your OS doesn't know what to do with it.
Tip: If you know of another program that can open your TGD file, you can try opening it by selecting the application from the programs listed.
Obsolete Version of Planetside Software Terragen
It is possible that your version of Planetside Software Terragen isn't able to open your Terragen Project File file due to incompatibility. Visit the Planetside Software website to download (or purchase) the latest version of Planetside Software Terragen. The primary cause of this problem is that your Terragen Project File file was created by a different (newer) version of Planetside Software Terragen than what's installed.
Tip: If you right-click on your TGD file, then select "Properties" (Windows) or "Get Info" (Mac), you can obtain hints about what version you need.
Ultimately, most of the difficulties opening TGD files are due to having the wrong version of Planetside Software Terragen installed.
Associated Difficulties Loading TGD Files
In the majority of cases, installing the right version of Planetside Software Terragen will resolve your issue. There can be external issues inside of %%os%% that are causing these errors when opening TGDs. Additional factors include:
- File references in the Windows Registry for TGD are wrong
- Accidental deletion of the description of the TGD file in the Windows registry
- Corrupt install of Planetside Software Terragen or other TGD-related program
- TGD file corruption
- Your TGD is infected with malware
- TGD-related hardware has device drivers that obsolete
- Your computer does not have the adequate system resources to open the Terragen Project File format
