TIM Troubleshooting
Typical TIM Opening Challenges
The Incredible Machine Disappeared
When trying to open your TIM file, you get the error "Can't Open TIM File Type". Customarily, this means that The Incredible Machine is not installed on %%os%%. Your operating system cannot associate your TIM with The Incredible Machine, so double-clicking the file won't work.
Tip: When you have another program installed that you know will open your TIM, you can select it from the other programs listed (see "Show Apps").
Outdated The Incredible Machine
Sometimes your installed version of The Incredible Machine won't support your The Incredible Machine Level file. Installing the latest version of The Incredible Machine from Sierra Entertainment is recommended. Your The Incredible Machine Level file was probably created by a newer release of The Incredible Machine than what's currently installed your computer.
Tip: Sometimes you can get a clue about the version of TIM file you have by right clicking on the file, then clicking on "Properties" (Windows) or "Get Info" (Mac OSX).
Summary: Not having the right The Incredible Machine version on your computer can cause problems opening TIM files.
Other TIM File Issues
You can still experience errors opening TIM files even with the latest version of The Incredible Machine installed on your PC. Other TIM opening errors can be created by other system problems inside of %%os%%. Issues that aren't software-related:
- Corrupt Windows Registry file path references for TIM
- Mistaken removal of the Windows registry TIM description
- The Incredible Machine or another TIM application experienced a flawed installation
- Your TIM file is corrupted (issues with your The Incredible Machine Level file itself)
- Your TIM has adversely impacted by malware
- Hardware associated with TIM has outdated drivers
- Your computer does not have the adequate system resources to open the The Incredible Machine Level format
