Understanding TRI Issues

Troubles Opening TRI Files

The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Isn't There

When trying to open your TRI file, you get the error "Can't Open TRI File Type". If this is the case, it's usually due to the fact that you do not have The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion for %%os%% installed on your computer. You won't be able to double-click to open your TRI because your OS doesn't know what to do with it.

Tip: If you have another software that you know opens TRI files, you can select it by hitting the "Show Apps" button.

Wrong Version of The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion is Installed

In some cases, you might have a newer (or older) version of a FaceGen Polygonal Model File file that is unsupported by your installed application version. If you've got the wrong version of The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion installed, you'll need to install the correct version. This problem is predominately due to having a FaceGen Polygonal Model File file version that was created by a newer version of The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion than what you have installed on your PC.

Tip: Find clues on the correct software version by right-clicking your TRI file and clicking "Properties".

Ultimately, most of the difficulties opening TRI files are due to having the wrong version of The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion installed.

Associated Difficulties Loading TRI Files

Even with the correct version of The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion installed, you can still experience difficulties opening TRIs. If you're still experiencing problems opening TRI files, there could be other computer problems. Problems unrelated to software:

  • TRI file type Registry entries are wrong
  • Mistaken removal of the Windows registry TRI description
  • Incomplete or bad installation of a software application associated with the TRI format
  • Something has caused file corruption of your TRI
  • Your TRI is infected with malware
  • Device drivers for TRI-related hardware are out-of-date
  • Insufficient system resources to successfully open FaceGen Polygonal Model File files
