Troubles Opening UUE Files
Apple Archive Utility Disappeared
If you attempt to load your UUE file, you experience a message such as "Can't Open UUE Files". If this is the case, it's usually due to the fact that you do not have Apple Archive Utility for %%os%% installed on your computer. The OS won't know what to do with your UUE file, so double-clicking to load the file doesn't work.
Tip: If you don't have Apple Archive Utility installed, and you know of another program to open your UUE file, you can try opening it by selecting from the programs listed under "Show Apps".
Apple Archive Utility is Out-of-Date
In other instances, your Uuencoded File file version may not be supported by your version of Apple Archive Utility. Installing the latest version of Apple Archive Utility from Apple is recommended. Most of the time your Uuencoded File file was created by a newer Apple Archive Utility than what you have installed.
Tip: You can sometimes get hints about the right program version by right-clicking on the UUE file, selecting "Properties", and looking at the version information.
Ultimately, most of the difficulties opening UUE files are due to having the wrong version of Apple Archive Utility installed.
Other UUE File Opening Causes
In the majority of cases, installing the right version of Apple Archive Utility will resolve your issue. If you are still having problems opening UUE files, there may be other issues that are preventing you from opening these files. These issues include:
- Windows Registry UUE file paths that are incorrect
- The UUE file description within the Windows Registry was removed
- Corrupt install of Apple Archive Utility or other UUE-related program
- UUE file corruption
- Malware-tainted UUE file can't be opened
- Device drivers for UUE-related hardware are out-of-date
- Insufficient system resources to successfully open Uuencoded File files
