Troubleshoot VLW Files
Issues Opening VLW Files
Processing Removed
When you double-click your VLW file, you may see a dialog box from your operating system stating that it "Cannot Open This File Type". If this is the case, it's usually due to the fact that you do not have Processing for %%os%% installed on your computer. Your operating system cannot associate your VLW with Processing, so double-clicking the file won't work.
Tip: If you have another software that you know opens VLW files, you can select it by hitting the "Show Apps" button.
Outdated Processing
Sometimes your installed version of Processing won't support your Processing Font File file. Visit the Open Source website to download (or purchase) the latest version of Processing. Most of the time your Processing Font File file was created by a newer Processing than what you have installed.
Tip: Right-clicking on your VLW, then clicking "Properties" (Windows) or "Get Info" (Mac), can provide clues about your file version.
Summary: In either case, the majority of problems opening VLW files are related to not having the correct software application installed on your computer.
Associated Difficulties Loading VLW Files
In the majority of cases, installing the right version of Processing will resolve your issue. If you are continuing to have errors with loading VLW files, other external issues might be to blame. These issues include:
- Windows Registry VLW file paths that are incorrect
- Mistaken removal of the Windows registry VLW description
- Processing or another VLW application experienced a flawed installation
- VLW file corruption
- The VLW is infected with a virus
- Device drivers of the hardware associated with your VLW file are corrupt or out-of-date
- Insufficient system resources to successfully open Processing Font File files
