VTS File Complications
Common VTS Opening Problems
Missing Intel VTune
You attempt to load your VTS file and get an error such as "%%os%% Can't Open The VTS File Extension". Generally, this is experienced in %%os%% because Intel VTune isn't installed on your PC. This will prevent you from double-clicking to open the VTS file because the OS doesn’t know how to handle it.
Tip: When you have another program installed that you know will open your VTS, you can select it from the other programs listed (see "Show Apps").
Intel VTune is Out-of-Date
In some cases, you might have a newer (or older) version of a Intel VTune Program Performance Monitor Project file that is unsupported by your installed application version. If you do not have the proper version Intel VTune (or any of the other programs listed above), you may need to try downloading a different version of it, or one of the other software applications listed above. This problem is predominately due to having a Intel VTune Program Performance Monitor Project file version that was created by a newer version of Intel VTune than what you have installed on your PC.
Tip: You can sometimes get hints about the right program version by right-clicking on the VTS file, selecting "Properties", and looking at the version information.
Summary: In either case, the majority of problems opening VTS files are related to not having the correct software application installed on your computer.
Other VTS File Opening Causes
Even with the correct version of Intel VTune installed, you can still experience difficulties opening VTSs. There can be external issues inside of %%os%% that are causing these errors when opening VTSs. Problems unrelated to software:
- VTS file references in the Windows Registry are broken
- Unintentional removal of the description of the VTS file inside the Windows Registry
- Defective install of a VTS program, such as Intel VTune
- Something has caused file corruption of your VTS
- The VTS is infected with a virus
- Device drivers of the hardware associated with your VTS file are corrupt or out-of-date
- Your computer does not have the adequate system resources to open the Intel VTune Program Performance Monitor Project format
