Troubleshoot VU Files
Common Problems Opening VU Files
PlayStation 2 is Not Installed
You attempt to load your VU file and get an error such as "%%os%% Can't Open The VU File Extension". When this happens, it is commonly due to PlayStation 2 missing in %%os%%. This will prevent you from double-clicking to open the VU file because the OS doesn’t know how to handle it.
Tip: Another VU-related program can be selected to open the file by clicking "Show Apps" and finding the application.
Incorrect PlayStation 2 Version
It is possible that your version of PlayStation 2 isn't able to open your Playstation 2 VU Development Source Code file due to incompatibility. Installing the latest version of PlayStation 2 from Sony is recommended. This problem is predominately due to having a Playstation 2 VU Development Source Code file version that was created by a newer version of PlayStation 2 than what you have installed on your PC.
Tip: If you right-click on your VU file, then select "Properties" (Windows) or "Get Info" (Mac), you can obtain hints about what version you need.
Summary: In either case, the majority of problems opening VU files are related to not having the correct software application installed on your computer.
Other VU File Issues
Although you might already have PlayStation 2 or another VU-associated software installed on your computer, you can still encounter problems opening Playstation 2 VU Development Source Code files. Other VU opening errors can be created by other system problems inside of %%os%%. These issues include:
- Windows Registry VU file paths that are incorrect
- Deletion of the VU file description from the Registry by mistake
- Invalid installation of a VU-associated program (eg. PlayStation 2)
- Your VU can't be loaded properly (file corruption)
- Past or present virus infection has affected your VU
- VU-related hardware has device drivers that obsolete
- Insufficient system resources to successfully open Playstation 2 VU Development Source Code files
