WA Troubleshooting
Frequent WA Opening Issues
Win Toolkit is Not Installed
You encounter an error message such as "%%os%% Can't Open WA Files" when trying to open your WA. Customarily, this means that Win Toolkit is not installed on %%os%%. The OS won't know what to do with your WA file, so double-clicking to load the file doesn't work.
Tip: If you know of another program that can open your WA file, you can try opening it by selecting the application from the programs listed.
Win Toolkit Requires Update
It is possible that your version of Win Toolkit isn't able to open your Windows Addon Archive file due to incompatibility. Download the latest Win Toolkit version from the Open Source website to ensure you have the correct one installed. The primary cause of this problem is that your Windows Addon Archive file was created by a different (newer) version of Win Toolkit than what's installed.
Tip: Right-clicking on your WA, then clicking "Properties" (Windows) or "Get Info" (Mac), can provide clues about your file version.
Conclusion: The majority of WA file opening issues are due to not having the correct Win Toolkit version installed.
Additional WA Opening Issues
Errors opening Windows Addon Archive files can still occur even with the latest Win Toolkit software installed on your computer. Other WA opening errors can be created by other system problems inside of %%os%%. These issues include:
- Windows Registry WA file paths that are incorrect
- Corruption of the WA file description inside the Registry
- Incomplete or bad installation of a software application associated with the WA format
- Your WA file is corrupted (issues with your Windows Addon Archive file itself)
- The WA is infected with a virus
- Hardware related to WAs has device driver corruption
- Windows has inadequate resources to open your Windows Addon Archive file
