WCR Troubleshooting
Common WCR Opening Problems
Missing Ergane
When trying to open your WCR file, you get the error "Can't Open WCR File Type". When this happens, it is commonly due to Ergane missing in %%os%%. This will prevent you from double-clicking to open the WCR file because the OS doesn’t know how to handle it.
Tip: Another WCR-related program can be selected to open the file by clicking "Show Apps" and finding the application.
Incorrect Ergane Version
Your Ergane Configuration File file is incompatible with Ergane because you might have the wrong version installed. Visit the Open Source website to download (or purchase) the latest version of Ergane. This problem is most common when you have an older version of the software application, and your file was created by a newer version that it cannot recognize.
Tip: Right-clicking on your WCR, then clicking "Properties" (Windows) or "Get Info" (Mac), can provide clues about your file version.
Summary: Not having the right Ergane version on your computer can cause problems opening WCR files.
Associated Difficulties Loading WCR Files
In the majority of cases, installing the right version of Ergane will resolve your issue. If you are still having problems opening WCR files, there may be other issues that are preventing you from opening these files. These issues include:
- WCR file references in the Windows Registry are broken
- The WCR file description within the Windows Registry was removed
- Defective install of a WCR program, such as Ergane
- The WCR itself is corrupted
- Malware-tainted WCR file can't be opened
- Hardware associated with WCR has outdated drivers
- Your computer does not have the adequate system resources to open the Ergane Configuration File format
