Troubles Opening WGM Files
Chalk Not Present
You encounter an error message such as "%%os%% Can't Open WGM Files" when trying to open your WGM. Generally, this is experienced in %%os%% because Chalk isn't installed on your PC. Because your operating system doesn't know what to do with this file, you won't be able to open it by double-clicking.
Tip: If you know of another program that can open your WGM file, you can try opening it by selecting the application from the programs listed.
Wrong Version of Chalk is Installed
Sometimes your installed version of Chalk won't support your Chalk Game Data file. Visit the Open Source website to download (or purchase) the latest version of Chalk. This problem is most common when you have an older version of the software application, and your file was created by a newer version that it cannot recognize.
Tip: Find clues on the correct software version by right-clicking your WGM file and clicking "Properties".
Regardless, most of the WGM file opening problems relate to not having the right version of Chalk installed.
Other WGM File Issues
Assuming you have the right Chalk version installed, other problems can prevent you from opening WGM files. If you are still having problems opening WGM files, there may be other issues that are preventing you from opening these files. Problems unrelated to software:
- Corrupt Windows Registry file path references for WGM
- The WGM file description within the Windows Registry was removed
- Chalk or another WGM application experienced a flawed installation
- Your WGM can't be loaded properly (file corruption)
- Malware-tainted WGM file can't be opened
- Device drivers for WGM-related hardware are out-of-date
- Insufficient system resources to successfully open Chalk Game Data files
