Troubleshoot WKB Files
Common WKB Opening Problems
Corel WordPerfect is Not Installed
When trying to open your WKB file, you get the error "Can't Open WKB File Type". Usually, this is because you do not have Corel WordPerfect for %%os%% installed. The OS won't know what to do with your WKB file, so double-clicking to load the file doesn't work.
Tip: When you have another program installed that you know will open your WKB, you can select it from the other programs listed (see "Show Apps").
Wrong Version of Corel WordPerfect is Installed
Sometimes your installed version of Corel WordPerfect won't support your Corel WordPerfect Document file. Download the latest Corel WordPerfect version from the Corel website to ensure you have the correct one installed. The primary cause of this problem is that your Corel WordPerfect Document file was created by a different (newer) version of Corel WordPerfect than what's installed.
Tip: Right-clicking on your WKB, then clicking "Properties" (Windows) or "Get Info" (Mac), can provide clues about your file version.
Ultimately, most of the difficulties opening WKB files are due to having the wrong version of Corel WordPerfect installed.
Other WKB File Opening Causes
Although you might already have Corel WordPerfect or another WKB-associated software installed on your computer, you can still encounter problems opening Corel WordPerfect Document files. There can be external issues inside of %%os%% that are causing these errors when opening WKBs. These other problems include (listed in order from most to least common):
- WKB file type Registry entries are wrong
- Accidental deletion of the description of the WKB file in the Windows registry
- Corrupt install of Corel WordPerfect or other WKB-related program
- File corruption affecting your WKB file
- Malware-tainted WKB file can't be opened
- Device drivers of the hardware associated with your WKB file are corrupt or out-of-date
- Too many applications are open on your PC to load your Corel WordPerfect Document file successfully
