WXR File Complications
Typical WXR Opening Challenges
wxWidgets Removed
When you double-click your WXR file, you may see a dialog box from your operating system stating that it "Cannot Open This File Type". If this is the case, it's usually due to the fact that you do not have wxWidgets for %%os%% installed on your computer. Your operating system cannot associate your WXR with wxWidgets, so double-clicking the file won't work.
Tip: Another WXR-related program can be selected to open the file by clicking "Show Apps" and finding the application.
wxWidgets is Out-of-Date
In other instances, your WxWindgets Resource Data file version may not be supported by your version of wxWidgets. If you've got the wrong version of wxWidgets installed, you'll need to install the correct version. This problem is most common when you have an older version of the software application, and your file was created by a newer version that it cannot recognize.
Tip: Sometimes you can get a clue about the version of WXR file you have by right clicking on the file, then clicking on "Properties" (Windows) or "Get Info" (Mac OSX).
Primarily, problems experienced when opening WXR files are due to having the incorrect version of wxWidgets installed on your computer.
Additional WXR Opening Issues
Even with the correct version of wxWidgets installed, you can still experience difficulties opening WXRs. If you are still having problems opening WXR files, there may be other issues that are preventing you from opening these files. Issues that aren't software-related:
- Windows Registry WXR file paths that are incorrect
- The WXR file description within the Windows Registry was removed
- wxWidgets or another WXR application experienced a flawed installation
- The WXR itself is corrupted
- The WXR is infected with a virus
- Device drivers of the hardware associated with your WXR file are corrupt or out-of-date
- Your computer does not have the adequate system resources to open the WxWindgets Resource Data format
