Frequent ZDT Opening Issues
Zhongwen Development Tool Not Present
You attempt to load your ZDT file and get an error such as "%%os%% Can't Open The ZDT File Extension". Generally, this is experienced in %%os%% because Zhongwen Development Tool isn't installed on your PC. The OS won't know what to do with your ZDT file, so double-clicking to load the file doesn't work.
Tip: If you don't have Zhongwen Development Tool installed, and you know of another program to open your ZDT file, you can try opening it by selecting from the programs listed under "Show Apps".
Wrong Version of Zhongwen Development Tool is Installed
Your ZDT Data file is incompatible with Zhongwen Development Tool because you might have the wrong version installed. Visit the Open Source website to download (or purchase) the latest version of Zhongwen Development Tool. This problem is predominately due to having a ZDT Data file version that was created by a newer version of Zhongwen Development Tool than what you have installed on your PC.
Tip: Investigate your ZDT file by right-clicking and selecting "Properties" to find clues on what version you need.
Summary: In either case, the majority of problems opening ZDT files are related to not having the correct software application installed on your computer.
Other Causes of ZDT File Opening Problems
You can still experience errors opening ZDT files even with the latest version of Zhongwen Development Tool installed on your PC. If you are continuing to have errors with loading ZDT files, other external issues might be to blame. Other contributing causes:
- ZDT file references in the Windows Registry are broken
- Unintentional removal of the description of the ZDT file inside the Windows Registry
- Invalid installation of a ZDT-associated program (eg. Zhongwen Development Tool)
- File corruption affecting your ZDT file
- Malware-tainted ZDT file can't be opened
- Device drivers for ZDT-related hardware are out-of-date
- Windows has inadequate resources to open your ZDT Data file
