ZED Troubleshooting
Troubles Opening ZED Files
Missing ZX-Editor
You attempt to load your ZED file and get an error such as "%%os%% Can't Open The ZED File Extension". If so, it typically means that you don't have ZX-Editor installed for %%os%%. The OS won't know what to do with your ZED file, so double-clicking to load the file doesn't work.
Tip: Another ZED-related program can be selected to open the file by clicking "Show Apps" and finding the application.
Wrong Version of ZX-Editor is Installed
Your ZX-Edit Document Block File file is incompatible with ZX-Editor because you might have the wrong version installed. If you've got the wrong version of ZX-Editor installed, you'll need to install the correct version. The primary cause of this problem is that your ZX-Edit Document Block File file was created by a different (newer) version of ZX-Editor than what's installed.
Tip: If you right-click on your ZED file, then select "Properties" (Windows) or "Get Info" (Mac), you can obtain hints about what version you need.
Primarily, problems experienced when opening ZED files are due to having the incorrect version of ZX-Editor installed on your computer.
Additional ZED Opening Issues
In the majority of cases, installing the right version of ZX-Editor will resolve your issue. If you are still having problems opening ZED files, there may be other issues that are preventing you from opening these files. These other problems include (listed in order from most to least common):
- Invalid ZED file references in the Windows Registry (the "phonebook" of the Windows Operating System)
- Deletion of the ZED file description from the Registry by mistake
- Partial installation of ZX-Editor that did not fully complete
- Something has caused file corruption of your ZED
- ZED file integrity has been compromised by malware
- ZED-related hardware has device drivers that obsolete
- Windows has inadequate resources to open your ZX-Edit Document Block File file
