Sources of ZID Problems
Common ZID Opening Problems
Zoo/PhytoImage Isn't There
When you double-click your ZID file, you may see a dialog box from your operating system stating that it "Cannot Open This File Type". If so, it typically means that you don't have Zoo/PhytoImage installed for %%os%%. You won't be able to double-click to open your ZID because your OS doesn't know what to do with it.
Tip: When another ZID application is installed, you can choose to open it by selecting "Show Apps" and using that program.
Zoo/PhytoImage Requires Update
In other instances, your Zoo/PhytoImage Data File file version may not be supported by your version of Zoo/PhytoImage. If you do not have the proper version Zoo/PhytoImage (or any of the other programs listed above), you may need to try downloading a different version of it, or one of the other software applications listed above. This problem is predominately due to having a Zoo/PhytoImage Data File file version that was created by a newer version of Zoo/PhytoImage than what you have installed on your PC.
Tip: Sometimes you can get a clue about the version of ZID file you have by right clicking on the file, then clicking on "Properties" (Windows) or "Get Info" (Mac OSX).
Summary: In either case, the majority of problems opening ZID files are related to not having the correct software application installed on your computer.
Associated Difficulties Loading ZID Files
Assuming you have the right Zoo/PhytoImage version installed, other problems can prevent you from opening ZID files. If you're still experiencing problems opening ZID files, there could be other computer problems. Problems unrelated to software:
- ZID file type Registry entries are wrong
- Deletion of the ZID file description from the Registry by mistake
- Invalid installation of a ZID-associated program (eg. Zoo/PhytoImage)
- ZID file corruption
- The ZID is infected with a virus
- ZID-related hardware has device drivers that obsolete
- Your PC doesn’t have enough available resources to open the Zoo/PhytoImage Data File file
