Troubleshooting Problems Opening ZLG Files

Typical ZLG Opening Challenges

Missing e-Surveiller

Double-clicking your ZLG file prompts the message "%%os%% Can't Open ZLG File". If this is the case, it's usually due to the fact that you do not have e-Surveiller for %%os%% installed on your computer. This will prevent you from double-clicking to open the ZLG file because the OS doesn’t know how to handle it.

Tip: When you have another program installed that you know will open your ZLG, you can select it from the other programs listed (see "Show Apps").

e-Surveiller Requires Update

It is possible that your version of e-Surveiller isn't able to open your E-Surveiller Log Archive File file due to incompatibility. If you've got the wrong version of e-Surveiller installed, you'll need to install the correct version. Most of the time your E-Surveiller Log Archive File file was created by a newer e-Surveiller than what you have installed.

Tip: Investigate your ZLG file by right-clicking and selecting "Properties" to find clues on what version you need.

Ultimately, most of the difficulties opening ZLG files are due to having the wrong version of e-Surveiller installed.

Additional ZLG Opening Issues

Even with the correct version of e-Surveiller installed, you can still experience difficulties opening ZLGs. If you are continuing to have errors with loading ZLG files, other external issues might be to blame. These issues include:

  • Corrupt Windows Registry file path references for ZLG
  • Deletion of the ZLG file description from the Registry by mistake
  • Partial installation of e-Surveiller that did not fully complete
  • Your ZLG file is corrupted (issues with your E-Surveiller Log Archive File file itself)
  • Your ZLG has adversely impacted by malware
  • Hardware associated with ZLG has outdated drivers
  • Your PC doesn’t have enough available resources to open the E-Surveiller Log Archive File file
