ZPT File Complications
Frequent ZPT Opening Issues
Zope is Not Installed
If you attempt to load your ZPT file, you experience a message such as "Can't Open ZPT Files". Usually, this is because you do not have Zope for %%os%% installed. The typical path of opening your ZPT with a double-click won't work because %%os%% cannot make the program connection.
Tip: If you don't have Zope installed, and you know of another program to open your ZPT file, you can try opening it by selecting from the programs listed under "Show Apps".
Outdated Zope
In some cases, you might have a newer (or older) version of a Zope Page Template file that is unsupported by your installed application version. Installing the latest version of Zope from Open Source is recommended. This problem is most common when you have an older version of the software application, and your file was created by a newer version that it cannot recognize.
Tip: Sometimes you can get a clue about the version of ZPT file you have by right clicking on the file, then clicking on "Properties" (Windows) or "Get Info" (Mac OSX).
Summary: In either case, the majority of problems opening ZPT files are related to not having the correct software application installed on your computer.
Other Causes of ZPT File Opening Problems
Although you might already have Zope or another ZPT-associated software installed on your computer, you can still encounter problems opening Zope Page Template files. If you are still having problems opening ZPT files, there may be other issues that are preventing you from opening these files. Other contributing causes:
- File references in the Windows Registry for ZPT are wrong
- Unintentional removal of the description of the ZPT file inside the Windows Registry
- Zope or another ZPT application experienced a flawed installation
- Something has caused file corruption of your ZPT
- Your ZPT is infected with malware
- Hardware related to ZPTs has device driver corruption
- Too many applications are open on your PC to load your Zope Page Template file successfully
