Troubleshooting Problems Opening HMA Files
Typical HMA Opening Challenges
Sony SonicStage Not Present
You attempt to load your HMA file and get an error such as "%%os%% Can't Open The HMA File Extension". Generally, this is experienced in %%os%% because Sony SonicStage isn't installed on your PC. Your operating system cannot associate your HMA with Sony SonicStage, so double-clicking the file won't work.
Tip: If you don't have Sony SonicStage installed, and you know of another program to open your HMA file, you can try opening it by selecting from the programs listed under "Show Apps".
Wrong Version of Sony SonicStage is Installed
In other instances, your Sony HI-MD Audio File file version may not be supported by your version of Sony SonicStage. If you do not have the proper version Sony SonicStage (or any of the other programs listed above), you may need to try downloading a different version of it, or one of the other software applications listed above. Your Sony HI-MD Audio File file was probably created by a newer release of Sony SonicStage than what's currently installed your computer.
Tip: If you right-click on your HMA file, then select "Properties" (Windows) or "Get Info" (Mac), you can obtain hints about what version you need.
Summary: Not having the right Sony SonicStage version on your computer can cause problems opening HMA files.
