NVI Troubleshooting

Frequent NVI Opening Issues

NVIDIA Graphics Driver Disappeared

When trying to open your NVI file, you get the error "Can't Open NVI File Type". Usually, this is because you do not have NVIDIA Graphics Driver for %%os%% installed. The OS won't know what to do with your NVI file, so double-clicking to load the file doesn't work.

Tip: Another NVI-related program can be selected to open the file by clicking "Show Apps" and finding the application.

Outdated NVIDIA Graphics Driver

Your NVIDIA Driver File file is incompatible with NVIDIA Graphics Driver because you might have the wrong version installed. Visit the NVIDIA website to download (or purchase) the latest version of NVIDIA Graphics Driver. Most of the time your NVIDIA Driver File file was created by a newer NVIDIA Graphics Driver than what you have installed.

Tip: Sometimes you can get a clue about the version of NVI file you have by right clicking on the file, then clicking on "Properties" (Windows) or "Get Info" (Mac OSX).

Summary: Not having the right NVIDIA Graphics Driver version on your computer can cause problems opening NVI files.

Additional NVI Opening Issues

Assuming you have the right NVIDIA Graphics Driver version installed, other problems can prevent you from opening NVI files. There can be other issues - unrelated to software - preventing you from opening NVI files. Additional factors include:

  • Windows Registry NVI file paths that are incorrect
  • The NVI file description within the Windows Registry was removed
  • Invalid installation of a NVI-associated program (eg. NVIDIA Graphics Driver)
  • Your NVI can't be loaded properly (file corruption)
  • Your NVI is infected with malware
  • Hardware associated with NVI has outdated drivers
  • Insufficient system resources to successfully open NVIDIA Driver File files
