Troubleshoot PMP Files
Issues Opening PMP Files
Autodesk AutoCAD Isn't There
Double-clicking your PMP file prompts the message "%%os%% Can't Open PMP File". If this is the case, it's usually due to the fact that you do not have Autodesk AutoCAD for %%os%% installed on your computer. This will prevent you from double-clicking to open the PMP file because the OS doesn’t know how to handle it.
Tip: When another PMP application is installed, you can choose to open it by selecting "Show Apps" and using that program.
Wrong Version of Autodesk AutoCAD is Installed
Your AutoCAD Plot Model Parameter File file is incompatible with Autodesk AutoCAD because you might have the wrong version installed. You will need to download a newer version of Autodesk AutoCAD if you don't have the right version. This problem is most common when you have an older version of the software application, and your file was created by a newer version that it cannot recognize.
Tip: Right-clicking on your PMP, then clicking "Properties" (Windows) or "Get Info" (Mac), can provide clues about your file version.
Ultimately, most of the difficulties opening PMP files are due to having the wrong version of Autodesk AutoCAD installed.
Other Causes of PMP File Opening Problems
Even with the correct version of Autodesk AutoCAD installed, you can still experience difficulties opening PMPs. There can be other issues - unrelated to software - preventing you from opening PMP files. Additional factors include:
- File references in the Windows Registry for PMP are wrong
- Corruption of the PMP file description inside the Registry
- Partial installation of Autodesk AutoCAD that did not fully complete
- Your PMP file is corrupted (issues with your AutoCAD Plot Model Parameter File file itself)
- PMP file integrity has been compromised by malware
- Device drivers for PMP-related hardware are out-of-date
- Your computer does not have the adequate system resources to open the AutoCAD Plot Model Parameter File format
