PSX Troubleshooting
Frequent PSX Opening Issues
PSXGameEdit is Not Installed
You encounter an error message such as "%%os%% Can't Open PSX Files" when trying to open your PSX. If this is the case, it's usually due to the fact that you do not have PSXGameEdit for %%os%% installed on your computer. The typical path of opening your PSX with a double-click won't work because %%os%% cannot make the program connection.
Tip: If you have another software that you know opens PSX files, you can select it by hitting the "Show Apps" button.
PSXGameEdit Requires Update
In some cases, you might have a newer (or older) version of a PlayStation Save File file that is unsupported by your installed application version. Download the latest PSXGameEdit version from the Open Source website to ensure you have the correct one installed. The primary cause of this problem is that your PlayStation Save File file was created by a different (newer) version of PSXGameEdit than what's installed.
Tip: If you right-click on your PSX file, then select "Properties" (Windows) or "Get Info" (Mac), you can obtain hints about what version you need.
Summary: Not having the right PSXGameEdit version on your computer can cause problems opening PSX files.
Other PSX File Opening Causes
Although you might already have PSXGameEdit or another PSX-associated software installed on your computer, you can still encounter problems opening PlayStation Save File files. Other PSX opening errors can be created by other system problems inside of %%os%%. Issues that aren't software-related:
- PSX file type Registry entries are wrong
- Unintentional removal of the description of the PSX file inside the Windows Registry
- Partial installation of PSXGameEdit that did not fully complete
- Something has caused file corruption of your PSX
- PSX file integrity has been compromised by malware
- Hardware associated with PSX has outdated drivers
- Windows has inadequate resources to open your PlayStation Save File file
