Troubleshooting Problems Opening SFB Files
Frequent SFB Opening Issues
Microsoft Notepad is Not Installed
If you attempt to load your SFB file, you experience a message such as "Can't Open SFB Files". Generally, this is experienced in %%os%% because Microsoft Notepad isn't installed on your PC. The typical path of opening your SFB with a double-click won't work because %%os%% cannot make the program connection.
Tip: When you have another program installed that you know will open your SFB, you can select it from the other programs listed (see "Show Apps").
Microsoft Notepad is Out-of-Date
Your PlayStation 3 Disc Data File file is incompatible with Microsoft Notepad because you might have the wrong version installed. Installing the latest version of Microsoft Notepad from Microsoft Corporation is recommended. Your PlayStation 3 Disc Data File file was probably created by a newer release of Microsoft Notepad than what's currently installed your computer.
Tip: You can sometimes get hints about the right program version by right-clicking on the SFB file, selecting "Properties", and looking at the version information.
Primarily, problems experienced when opening SFB files are due to having the incorrect version of Microsoft Notepad installed on your computer.
Other SFB File Issues
Even with the correct version of Microsoft Notepad installed, you can still experience difficulties opening SFBs. If you are still having problems opening SFB files, there may be other issues that are preventing you from opening these files. Other contributing causes:
- Windows Registry SFB file paths that are incorrect
- Accidental deletion of the description of the SFB file in the Windows registry
- Defective install of a SFB program, such as Microsoft Notepad
- Something has caused file corruption of your SFB
- Past or present virus infection has affected your SFB
- Device drivers for SFB-related hardware are out-of-date
- Your computer does not have the adequate system resources to open the PlayStation 3 Disc Data File format
