XAS Troubleshooting
Common Problems Opening XAS Files
Pro/ENGINEER Disappeared
You attempt to load your XAS file and get an error such as "%%os%% Can't Open The XAS File Extension". If this is the case, it's usually due to the fact that you do not have Pro/ENGINEER for %%os%% installed on your computer. Your operating system cannot associate your XAS with Pro/ENGINEER, so double-clicking the file won't work.
Tip: If you have another software that you know opens XAS files, you can select it by hitting the "Show Apps" button.
Pro/ENGINEER Requires Update
Your PTC Pro/Engineer Assembly File file is incompatible with Pro/ENGINEER because you might have the wrong version installed. If you do not have the proper version Pro/ENGINEER (or any of the other programs listed above), you may need to try downloading a different version of it, or one of the other software applications listed above. This issue mainly occurs when your PTC Pro/Engineer Assembly File file was created by a newer version of Pro/ENGINEER than you have on your PC.
Tip: Find clues on the correct software version by right-clicking your XAS file and clicking "Properties".
Conclusion: The majority of XAS file opening issues are due to not having the correct Pro/ENGINEER version installed.
Other XAS File Opening Causes
Assuming you have the right Pro/ENGINEER version installed, other problems can prevent you from opening XAS files. There can be other issues - unrelated to software - preventing you from opening XAS files. Additional factors include:
- Windows Registry XAS file paths that are incorrect
- Unintentional removal of the description of the XAS file inside the Windows Registry
- Corrupt install of Pro/ENGINEER or other XAS-related program
- File corruption affecting your XAS file
- Your XAS has adversely impacted by malware
- Device drivers of the hardware associated with your XAS file are corrupt or out-of-date
- Insufficient system resources to successfully open PTC Pro/Engineer Assembly File files
