Sources of ATOM Problems
Common ATOM Opening Problems
Apple Safari Isn't There
You attempt to load your ATOM file and get an error such as "%%os%% Can't Open The ATOM File Extension". When this happens, it is commonly due to Apple Safari missing in %%os%%. The OS won't know what to do with your ATOM file, so double-clicking to load the file doesn't work.
Tip: If you don't have Apple Safari installed, and you know of another program to open your ATOM file, you can try opening it by selecting from the programs listed under "Show Apps".
Obsolete Version of Apple Safari
In some cases, you might have a newer (or older) version of a Atom Syndication Format file that is unsupported by your installed application version. If you do not have the proper version Apple Safari (or any of the other programs listed above), you may need to try downloading a different version of it, or one of the other software applications listed above. This problem is most common when you have an older version of the software application, and your file was created by a newer version that it cannot recognize.
Tip: If you right-click on your ATOM file, then select "Properties" (Windows) or "Get Info" (Mac), you can obtain hints about what version you need.
Ultimately, most of the difficulties opening ATOM files are due to having the wrong version of Apple Safari installed.
Additional ATOM Opening Issues
Assuming you have the right Apple Safari version installed, other problems can prevent you from opening ATOM files. If you are still having problems opening ATOM files, there may be other issues that are preventing you from opening these files. These other problems include (listed in order from most to least common):
- File references in the Windows Registry for ATOM are wrong
- Deletion of the ATOM file description from the Registry by mistake
- Partial installation of Apple Safari that did not fully complete
- Your ATOM file is corrupted (issues with your Atom Syndication Format file itself)
- Your ATOM is infected with malware
- Hardware related to ATOMs has device driver corruption
- Insufficient system resources to successfully open Atom Syndication Format files
