Sources of MB Problems

Common MB Opening Problems

Autodesk Maya is Not Installed

When you double-click your MB file, you may see a dialog box from your operating system stating that it "Cannot Open This File Type". If this is the case, it's usually due to the fact that you do not have Autodesk Maya for %%os%% installed on your computer. Your operating system cannot associate your MB with Autodesk Maya, so double-clicking the file won't work.

Tip: If you have another software that you know opens MB files, you can select it by hitting the "Show Apps" button.

Autodesk Maya is Out-of-Date

Your Maya Binary Project File file is incompatible with Autodesk Maya because you might have the wrong version installed. You will need to download a newer version of Autodesk Maya if you don't have the right version. This issue mainly occurs when your Maya Binary Project File file was created by a newer version of Autodesk Maya than you have on your PC.

Tip: Investigate your MB file by right-clicking and selecting "Properties" to find clues on what version you need.

Summary: In either case, the majority of problems opening MB files are related to not having the correct software application installed on your computer.

More Causes of Problems Opening MBs

Errors opening Maya Binary Project File files can still occur even with the latest Autodesk Maya software installed on your computer. There can be other issues - unrelated to software - preventing you from opening MB files. Other contributing causes:
