MODS Troubleshooting
Typical MODS Opening Challenges
Missing Mozilla Firefox
When trying to open your MODS file, you get the error "Can't Open MODS File Type". If this is the case, it's usually due to the fact that you do not have Mozilla Firefox for %%os%% installed on your computer. The typical path of opening your MODS with a double-click won't work because %%os%% cannot make the program connection.
Tip: Another MODS-related program can be selected to open the file by clicking "Show Apps" and finding the application.
Obsolete Version of Mozilla Firefox
It is possible that your version of Mozilla Firefox isn't able to open your Mozilla XULRunner File file due to incompatibility. Installing the latest version of Mozilla Firefox from Mozilla is recommended. The primary cause of this problem is that your Mozilla XULRunner File file was created by a different (newer) version of Mozilla Firefox than what's installed.
Tip: Investigate your MODS file by right-clicking and selecting "Properties" to find clues on what version you need.
Primarily, problems experienced when opening MODS files are due to having the incorrect version of Mozilla Firefox installed on your computer.
Other MODS File Issues
Even with the correct version of Mozilla Firefox installed, you can still experience difficulties opening MODSs. If you're still experiencing problems opening MODS files, there could be other computer problems. Issues that aren't software-related:
- Invalid MODS file references in the Windows Registry (the "phonebook" of the Windows Operating System)
- The MODS file description within the Windows Registry was removed
- Corrupt install of Mozilla Firefox or other MODS-related program
- Your MODS can't be loaded properly (file corruption)
- The MODS is infected with a virus
- Device drivers of the hardware associated with your MODS file are corrupt or out-of-date
- Too many applications are open on your PC to load your Mozilla XULRunner File file successfully
