CyberLink PowerDVD Not Present
When you double-click your MPG4 file, you may see a dialog box from your operating system stating that it "Cannot Open This File Type". Generally, this is experienced in %%os%% because CyberLink PowerDVD isn't installed on your PC. The typical path of opening your MPG4 with a double-click won't work because %%os%% cannot make the program connection.
Tip: If you don't have CyberLink PowerDVD installed, and you know of another program to open your MPG4 file, you can try opening it by selecting from the programs listed under "Show Apps".
CyberLink PowerDVD is Out-of-Date
In some cases, you might have a newer (or older) version of a MPEG-4 Video File file that is unsupported by your installed application version. If you do not have the proper version CyberLink PowerDVD (or any of the other programs listed above), you may need to try downloading a different version of it, or one of the other software applications listed above. Most of the time your MPEG-4 Video File file was created by a newer CyberLink PowerDVD than what you have installed.
Tip: You can sometimes get hints about the right program version by right-clicking on the MPG4 file, selecting "Properties", and looking at the version information.
Ultimately, most of the difficulties opening MPG4 files are due to having the wrong version of CyberLink PowerDVD installed.

Although you might already have CyberLink PowerDVD or another MPG4-associated software installed on your computer, you can still encounter problems opening MPEG-4 Video File files. There can be other issues - unrelated to software - preventing you from opening MPG4 files. Problems unrelated to software:
- MPG4 file type Registry entries are wrong
- Corruption of the MPG4 file description inside the Registry
- Partial installation of CyberLink PowerDVD that did not fully complete
- Something has caused file corruption of your MPG4
- Your MPG4 has adversely impacted by malware
- Device drivers for MPG4-related hardware are out-of-date
- Insufficient system resources to successfully open MPEG-4 Video File files
