Understanding MXF Issues
Frequent MXF Opening Issues
Adobe Premiere Pro CC Not Present
When you double-click your MXF file, you may see a dialog box from your operating system stating that it "Cannot Open This File Type". If so, it typically means that you don't have Adobe Premiere Pro CC installed for %%os%%. Your operating system cannot associate your MXF with Adobe Premiere Pro CC, so double-clicking the file won't work.
Tip: When you have another program installed that you know will open your MXF, you can select it from the other programs listed (see "Show Apps").
Obsolete Version of Adobe Premiere Pro CC
Your Material Exchange Format File file is incompatible with Adobe Premiere Pro CC because you might have the wrong version installed. Visit the Adobe Systems Incorporated website to download (or purchase) the latest version of Adobe Premiere Pro CC. The primary cause of this problem is that your Material Exchange Format File file was created by a different (newer) version of Adobe Premiere Pro CC than what's installed.
Tip: Right-clicking on your MXF, then clicking "Properties" (Windows) or "Get Info" (Mac), can provide clues about your file version.
Primarily, problems experienced when opening MXF files are due to having the incorrect version of Adobe Premiere Pro CC installed on your computer.
Additional MXF Opening Issues
Errors opening Material Exchange Format File files can still occur even with the latest Adobe Premiere Pro CC software installed on your computer. Other MXF opening errors can be created by other system problems inside of %%os%%. These other problems include (listed in order from most to least common):
- Invalid MXF file references in the Windows Registry (the "phonebook" of the Windows Operating System)
- Corruption of the MXF file description inside the Registry
- Defective install of a MXF program, such as Adobe Premiere Pro CC
- Your MXF file is corrupted (issues with your Material Exchange Format File file itself)
- Malware-tainted MXF file can't be opened
- Drivers associated with MXF software need to be updated
- Windows has inadequate resources to open your Material Exchange Format File file
